The West Chester Bird Club was founded in 1910, making it one of the oldest continually active bird clubs in the USA. It is based in West Chester, the county seat of Chester County, in south-east Pennsylvania. In addition to field trips and evening programs, the club participates in the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count, winter feeder counts, the Pennsylvania Migration Count and local breeding bird counts. Club members have published an Annotated List of Chester County Birds, which is available for purchase. Also available are Checklists for Birds of the Middle Atlantic States.
Our meeting place is the Friends' Meeting House, located at the corner of North High Street and Marshall Street in West Chester, PA. Anyone may attend the meetings. Regular meetings begin at 8:00 p.m. on Monday evenings. See the Evening Programs link for the current schedule and the Meeting Room Location link for a map showing the location of the Meeting House in West Chester. A wide variety of programs about birds, birding and conservation is offered with something of interest for everyone.
Our field trips are also open to all interested people. We find both seasonal birds and rarities under the leadership of our very capable members. Approximately 45 field trips are scheduled each year, both locally and in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and, occasionally, other areas farther away. See the Field Trips link for details, but please check with the trip leader for possible changes.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in birds, but you must be present at the meeting during which you are nominated for membership. No previous birding experience is necessary. If interested, please contact one of our membership co-chairpersons - see the list of Officers and Committee Chairpersons. Yearly membership fees are $15 for individuals.
